​​BRIEF BIOGRAPHY:

Elisa Miravalles (Burgos, Spain, 1987) is a visual and performance artist, researcher and lecturer. Her practice explores the relationships between body, space, notation and systems, with a particular interest in rule-based and process-oriented forms of performance.

​

She holds a degree in Fine Arts (2012) and a Master’s degree in Artistic Research and Creation (2015) from the Complutense University of Madrid. She is currently completing a PhD in Fine Arts at the same university, where her research focuses on systemic scores and mathematical structures in contemporary performance. As part of her doctoral studies, she undertook an international research stay at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (FBAUP), Portugal.

She currently teaches at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC). She is also a member of the research group Data Art Research: Theories, Methods and Practices and of the teaching innovation project Action Art Laboratory: Development of Teaching Materials and Research Strategies through the Body in Virtual Education. In 2020, she was selected for the IncubaUCM programme organised by the Complutense University’s Office for Entrepreneurship.

Her work has been presented at numerous performance festivals and programmes, including Corpo+Cidade in Porto, Escenas de Verano in the Community of Madrid, Canal Performance at Teatros del Canal, Escena Abierta in Burgos, Performance Art Bergen in Norway, Perneo Performance Art in Madrid, De lado a lado in Salamanca, Draw to Perform in Brighton, Acción!MAD in Madrid, Mulleres en Acción in Galicia, Acción Spring(t) in Madrid, Nexo in Toledo, Femme Journeys, P.E.P.A., ArtSur in Córdoba and SanFest in Guadalajara.

Her performances have also been presented at venues and art fairs including Hybrid Art Fair, JUSTMAD Contemporary Art Fair, Teatros del Canal, Twin Gallery, Museo La Neomudéjar, Museo Vostell Malpartida, El Águila Cultural Centre, ATM Galería in Gijón, Galería Alegría, Nave 73, Matadero Madrid and Círculo de Arte de Toledo. Her visual work has been exhibited at Galería Alegría, ATM Galería, the Complutense University of Madrid, Exopaire in Palencia and ArteAranda in Burgos.
